About the artist:

Born in Missouri in 1957, Kyle Carroll has been a “student of the woods" since his youth. His art and the subjects he paints are a reflection of a life long interest in American history, and the outdoors. Researching his work and physically experiencing the elements during living history events, treks into the wilderness with his muzzleloader and re-enactments have helped him develop an affinity with the hardy breed of men and women who lived and died on the edge of civilization. As a biologist, hunter, historian and re-enactor, Carroll brings a unique perspective to his work. Kyle devotes time to research his subjects before he begins work on a historical project. Historical accuracy combined with his extensive knowledge of frontier America and its natural history is reflected in his paintings.

He studied art in college before earning a Biology degree, but attributes much of his ability to what he has learned to trial and error and the help from other artists. His work has been influenced by David Wright, Tom Lovell and a host of other historical artists and friends. Kyle lives with his wife Sharon on a wooded hill side above historic Lost Creek near Maysville, Missouri.
