As artist John Buxton writes about the artwork, Extinct:
"Native people of eastern North America no longer enjoy the
lifestyle existing before contact with Europeans. It might be said
their original way is extinct. So it is also with our only indigenous
parrot species of the same area and time. When this colorful flocking
bird threatened European settlers crops, they were soon eliminated."
The artwork Extinct was selected by an independent
jury to be the image used for Gettysburg's History Meets the Arts
(HMTA) 10th anniversary poster. Proceeds from the sale of this poster
help the registered non-profit organization Main Street Gettysburg.
