The year is
1764 and a hunting party from Fort Pitt makes the ascent on Coal
Hill in search of a dwindling supply of game. Previous wars and
the long cold winter have taken their toll, forcing them to bring
their families into the confines of the fort, close to food, trade
goods and lodging. As they leave the old ways behind, they now find
themselves living in the shadow of the king.
This print
was released in December 1992 and was his first print to have an
edition size of 950. Until this time, his edition sizes were extremely
limited and prints used to be seen only in the immediate Pittsburgh
vicinity, the place where Griffing now makes his home. This print
was an immediate sell-out and to this day, remains one of Griffing's
most prized and recognized works.
