(3rd Braddock Series Print)
While the
parting light of day lingers in the beautiful valley of the Ohio,
the victorious warriors announce their success with a joyful uproar,
discharging their pieces and giving the scalp-halloo and instantly
the great guns of Fort Duquesne respond. A line of Indians brightly
decked out in red coats, a string of pack horses laden down with
the British weapons and provisions that had been recovered, sabers
and British canteens, about 15 captives, and the British regimental
colors dragging behind, were all part of the day's unimaginable
spoils.
Among the favorite
prizes of the victorious warriors were the fine red coats of the
44th and 48th Regiments which covered the battlefield. This coat
wearer is seen later in the day in the Triumphant Return to Fort
Duquesne.
