With
Pontiac's war behind them, three defiant Mingo warriors look down
on the British strong house known as Fort Pitt. The area is now
open to trade, but peace will be short lived as hundreds of settlers
pour into the great interior. The Allegheny River (in the foreground) merges with the Monongahela River to form the Ohio River (right side of painting).
This is Griffing's
first print of the point at Pittsburgh, set back in 1765.
